Thanks for joining me for my Barking Wednesday post.
Each week I post stuff about my favorite guy...Kingers and his friends.
All kinds of stuff....products - homemade treat recipes - info I have learned over the years, etc. Info I think is helpful in making sure that every dog lives a fantastic life.
This week I wanted to share my go to dog food recipe whenever Kingers is ill.
Homemade Hamburger Rice Dog Food
1 pound of extra lean hamburger meat
2.5 cups of cooked brown rice
1 cup boiled carrots
2 large eggs
Brown hamburger - drain fat. To the cooked hamburger add cooked rice and carrots ~ stir.
Add the 2 eggs to the meat mixture. Cook mixture until completely cooked. Make sure no meat is raw.
Rule of thumb for feeding homemade dog food is 1/2 cup of food for 10 pounds of dog weight.
Kingers weighs 90 pounds he receives 2 1/2 cups in the AM and 2 cups in the PM.
You can store dog food in a airtight container in the refrigerator for up to one week
As always check with your vet before you make any changes to your dog's diet.
Great homemade dog food recipe. My adorable muts do a raw diet most of the year. I will have to try this on the days it is too cold for them to eat outside. Looks quite healthy. Thanks for the tip.
ReplyDeleteI had never thought about making homemade dog food. Looks like a great recipe.
ReplyDeleteSounds like a tasty recipe that my dog would love!
ReplyDeleteFantastic recipe and I am sure my dog would really like it
ReplyDeleteThat lab reminds me of our dog and he used to look that way at us when he wanted a treat. It was his "I am so nice and obedient, but you still let me starve" look that usually resulted in him getting a treat.
ReplyDeleteI need to try this with our dog, He has been having some digestive issues.
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful recipe; I'm very careful with store bought food for my pups and this sounds simple and I know exactly whats in it. Thanks for sharing, will try it this weekend and see how they like it
ReplyDeleteWe used to make our dog food and I always felt so good about knowing exactly what she was eating.
ReplyDeleteI never thought about making home made dog food but it sounds like this would me less expensive and healthier then the actual dog food or am I wrong..
ReplyDeletei never even knew people did make their own dog food until we met our old neighbors. she taught me so much about caring for our pets

ReplyDeleteAw, this makes me miss my puppy. We always tried to give him good, REAL food whenever we could!
ReplyDeleteIt makes sense to have special food for our sick pets, but I did not think about it before this post.
ReplyDeletemy aunt use to always make her dogs food like this but i think its way to expensive for us
ReplyDeleteI know my pup would love this! I have to be careful of how much "people" food I give her, she gets sick. I think I could make a small batch of this and mix it with her food and she would love it.
ReplyDeleteWe don;t have a dog, but my mom does and she always makes her dogs' food from scratch. I'll share ths recipe with her :)
