Barking Wednesday - Tasty Dog Treats for the Holidays

Thanks for joining me for my Barking Wednesday post.
Each week I post stuff about my favorite guy...Kingers and his friends.
All kinds of stuff....products - homemade treat recipes - info I have learned over the years, etc.  Info I think is helpful in making sure that every dog lives a fantastic life.

I wanted to share with everyone a couple of my favorite Doggie Christmas Treat Recipes. These are both Kingers favorites.  Easy to make and good for them.

A bag of homemade treats make great gifts to give your Doggie Friends!  Dozer knows them as "Nana Treats",  Boomer sits very nice for a "Debbie Treat" and Kingers wags his tail for a "Cookie".

Peanut Butter & Pumpkin Doggie Cookies

2 1/2 cups whole wheat flour
2 eggs
1/2 cup canned pumpkin
3 tablespoons peanut butter
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
Mix together the flour, eggs, pumpkin, peanut butter, and cinnamon in a bowl. Dough will be dry and stiff. If needed add a small amount of water. Roll the dough into a 1/2-inch-thick roll. Cut into 1/2-inch pieces.
Bake in preheated oven until hard, about 40 minutes.
When completely cooled I place in clear bags I get at the hobby store and tie with a ribbon.

Gingerbread Dog Biscuits

3 Cups Whole Wheat Flour
1 teaspoon cinnamon
¼ cup plus 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
½ cup molasses
1/2 teaspoon ground ginger
½ cup water

Heat the oven to 325 F. Coat a baking sheet with cooking spray or oil.
In a large bowl, sift together the flour, ginger and cinnamon. Mix in the oil, molasses and water, then let rest for 15 minutes.
On a lightly floured surface, roll out the dough until ¼ inch thick.
Using holiday or bone shaped cookie cutters, cut out cookies, make sure to use every pieces of dough. It is fine to re-roll the scraps. Place cut out shapes the baking sheet,  bake until firm, about 20 minutes.
Cool on the baking sheet. When they are completely cool I place them in bags I get at hobby store and tie with a ribbon.

As always I recommend that you check with your vet before giving your dog anything new to eat.

  2. Love this idea. I have everything in my pantry to make the peanut butter pumpkin dog treat. My sister makes homemade treats for my fur babies and they love it. Guess I will give it a try today. Thanks for the tip.

  11. I don't have a dog so I can't use the recipe but I think it's a great idea to make your own dog treats. Then you know what's in them!
