My Flowers!!!!

Hi….I wanted to make sure to tell you upfront that  I have received no product or compensation to promote the umbrella. I am sharing because I LOVED my new gift I received from my hubby!!!  Thanks for visiting.

I just had to share how pretty my yard is getting and my new gift from my hubby.

He surprised me with a new umbrella for our deck. He purchased a Essential Garden Solar Umbrella! Perfect for our deck! Last night when I can home from working 2nd shift in the ER Department - I walked on the deck and there was a brand new umbrella! It is a solar light umbrella. I can hardly wait till tonight to check out the solar lights! Since Davey & Isa are visiting tonight...I think I will plan a late night outside deck snack - so we can sit under the umbrella and enjoy the lights!

I was so afraid since it stayed cold for so long this year that my flowers were not going to be pretty. This year Spring in Wisconsin started about 3 weeks ago. I am so happy that my flowers are doing wonderful this are a few pics from our yard!

The Well of Wyrding by Travis Simmons ~ Giveaway ends June 29th

Hi….I wanted to make sure to tell you upfront that  I have received no product or compensation to promote this book. I do so because I LOVE to read!  Thanks for visiting.

The The Well of Wyrding  (The Revenant Wyrd Saga #3)

"Experience the long anticipated sequel to The Mirror of the Moon.

In the fantastical lands of the Great Realms, Angelica, Jovian, and Joya are on the search for their older sister Amber, who has been kidnapped by the villain, Porillon. But Amber has slipped away from all of them, and where she has gone is as big a mystery as why she was taken. While they are searching for their sister, Porillon strikes a staggering blow to the entire land.

The Well of Wyrding, a mythic well which contains the magic and fate of every creature in the Great Realms, has been poisoned creating havoc as the magic power of wyrd becomes toxic.

While Grace, Rosalee, and Dalah seek a way to purify the Well of Wyrding, wyrd is going haywire, buildings fashioned with wyrd are turning to pinnacles of terror; wyrd is working against its casters; and people are taking up arms against the threat sorcerers and their kind pose.

But the toxic wyrd is causing a new problem to arise. They are called caustics: those wyrders who have been completely taken over by their chaotic wyrd. Husks of what they once were, they are now a vessel for Chaos in the realms."

Camp Fire Cinnamon Twist

We had another fantastic camping weekend.  Memorial Day is always fun at the campground - this weekend was no exception.
We did try another campfire dessert ~ Cinnamon Twist
Super easy to make and fun to cook.

  • One can of Cinnamon rolls (Not Cinnamon Buns - they are too large)
  • Stick
  • Toothpicks
  • Campfire

Take the cinnamon roll and twist it around a stick. I used 3 toothpicks to hold it in place. One toothpick for the top - one for the middle and one for the end.

Once roll is secure to your stick - hold over the campfire and slowly twist the stick - allowing the cinnamon roll to cook evenly.

It will take a while for the roll to cook without burning. Once the roll is cooked - squeeze the frosting on the roll. Remove the toothpicks then slide the roll off your stick.

The kids LOVED them!!! Perfect dessert after a full day of swimming.

Barking Wednesday ~ Things a Dog Will Eat

Welcome to Barking Wednesday.....Each Wednesday I post a article about dogs!

I found a very interesting list online.  These are the top 10 things that dogs eat at home that they should not eat!

Check it out....are any of these at your house - if so make sure they are out of your pets reach.
  1. Infant Pacifiers ~ particularly attractive if it’s been dipped in something tasty
  2. Stones ~ Our friends dog loved to play with stones! This is so dangerous since the stones can get logged in a dogs windpipe.
  3. Bones ~ especially any type of bone that will shatter (chicken bones are a must not have) - King loves to chew on antlers - they must be good for his teeth - the vet told me that King's teeth are excellent for being 11 years old
  4. Contents of a child’s toy box ~ all those colored little bits and pieces of lego, farm animals etc are very inviting to a dog - we once had a dog Bo that chewed the heads off of all of Dawn's Barbie dolls!
  5. Balls ~ make sure your dog only has access to those that are too big to swallow - (this is so important - dogs die playing with the small bouncing balls -the ball will get stuck in their windpipe)
  6. Corn on the cob cores ~ this is something I had never even thought woudl be a problem
  7. Rubber objects ~ rubber bands and erasers - balloons are deadly
  8. Fabric and Clothing ~ When King was a puppy he was drag our clothing around the house. If we left him for a while we would come home and fine a piece of my clothing and my hubby's clothing in the living room and he would be laying on it. He never chewed the clothing but I know dogs that have chewed up some very nice sweaters.
  9. Linear objects ~ tape found in cassettes, cotton, wool have all been removed from dogs
  10. Plastic bags ~ meat wrappers are really tempting to dogs

Garden Day

On Wednesday we planted our garden.  We keep thinking this might be a risky move considering the weather we have been having this spring in Wisconsin.  Just in case we get frost - I have sheets ready to cover everything if need be.

We do not have a large garden - more like a hobby garden. Our garden is only 8 feet by 24 ft. - the garden runs the south side of our garage. Something to grow and care for during the summer months.

We grow tomatoes, yellow pepper, green beans, okra, yellow squash, cucumbers, onions and garlic. Our plan this year is to grow our garlic, then dehydrate it and grind the dehydrated garlic. I will let you know how that goes. I plant sunflower seeds for the birds along the garage and marigolds to keep out the rabbits.

My hubby made the neatest things for the cucumbers and yellow squash. Check out the pic....super easy to make.

All you need is wire fencing that has been plastic coated, 4 poles, and a staple gun. Cut fencing then staple to the poles. Hammer in the ground so that they are sturdy.  If need be we can tie string connecting each pole for more growing area for the vines.

We use mess in our garden to control weeds a biodegradable mess that is perfect for stopping weeds. Picking weeds is not a favorite of mind! The mess works great at preventing weeds and is perfect for a small garden like ours.

Now to get watering and hopefully everything grows. My hubby is the garden waterer and also the feeder of the garden. He has his own concoction of nutrients he puts on the garden. Designed for the plants we grow.

Do you have a garden? If so, what is your favorite veggie to grow?

Easy Gift that says Thank You!

Today at work we are honoring our volunteers. My department has set-up a luncheon. All of the department staff are bringing in food to pass.

We wanted to give each volunteer a little something as our departments way of saying "THANK YOU".

Our gift is a group effort by brainstorming as a team we came up with the idea. I am the maker of the gifts. When I get to the hospital we will be adding a card to each cup - the card reads Kindness Sprouts from Volunteers.  Judy is making the cards - Laura thought of the saying and Barb thought of getting a flat of flowers and I thought of the cup and picks.

Check out the neat little gifts. So easy to make - All you need is one flat of flowers - 2 packs of paper cups - ribbon and I asked the floral department at my local grocery store if I could buy some picks.

Place one flower in a paper cup - add the pic and ribbon then the card.  DONE!

Total cost for 25 gifts was $14.99 for flowers - $2 for cups, $2.50 for 25 picks and 47 cents for ribbon = $19.99  Less than $1 per person.

I have learned over the years it is not the cost of a gift that counts ~ it is the love put into making the gift special that means the most.

I also want to tell every
VOLUNTEER everywhere!
You DO Make a Difference!

Green Lawn Care Tip

Easy way to have a great looking lawn!

To have a healthy lawn it is especially helpful to keep your grass long. Long grass needs less watering and less care (grass will choke out weeds). Try to keep your grass at least 3 1/2 inches long.

Only use natural fertilizers or compost. That way you are protecting all water sources in your area. Did you know that when you leave your grass clippings on your yard you are naturally fertilizing your lawn and they are FREE!

If you do not have lots of earthworms in your should consider purchasing some. Earthworms keep your soil healthy. They allow water and air to penetrate into the they add important nutrients to make your grass strong.

Have you ever stopped at a new restaurant and right away you knew this is a place you belong? Well yesterday my hubby and I found our place. We had just left the doctor's office and we wanted to get a bite to eat before heading to Home Depot for plants for the deck and garden.
As many of you know I live in a tourist area - SE Wisconsin - Lake Geneva area. What is nice about where I live is that I can have the small town feel and also the amenities of a tourist spot.
Living in the country - we do not always travel to downtown Lake Geneva but today we thought we would check out what was open.
We found the neatest new diner! Joni's Diner
It is a restored 1950's diner car!

Very unique! Joni's even has retro plates - cups - sugar dispensers! The place is totally retro!
Will not all retro - because the food is right up there with the best food in Lake Geneva!  We ordered the corn beef hash breakfast plate. I am telling you it was delicious! Barking Wednesday ~ Crate or No Crate?

Hi….I wanted to make sure to tell you upfront that  I have received no product or compensation to promote this informational website. I do so because I LOVE to learn and want to share their great info with others!  Thanks for visiting.

I am a crate user to train puppies ~ my daughter is not!! Who is right? I totally believe that it is a personal decision to crate or not to crate.

I like having a crate to keep the puppy safe from our home and also to keep my home safe from the puppy.  I do not believe that the crate should be used as punishment or as a means to leave the dog for long periods of time. The crate to me ~ should be a SAFE ZONE for the puppy.

My daughter believes that keeping the puppy in the crate is not the way to train.
King was trained using a crate - he is a very well adjusted dog that is loved very much. Dozer was trained with no crate and he too was a very well adjusted dog that was loved.   There is no right answer.

You might wonder why did I decide to write a post on crate or no crate? As many of you know Dozer passed as a result of bone cancer. Dawn plans on getting a new puppy in the fall.  I asked if she was going to get a crate and we starting discussing the topic.  I wondered if possibly other families are also very different in their views of crate or no crate. So I wanted to write a post about the benefits of a crate and what to look for when buying a crate. For my post I found some very good info online about dog crates at Dog's Owner Guide

What kind should I get?

The most popular crates are made of plastic or heavy welded steel wire. Plastic crates are molded two-piece units with ventilation areas along the sides and a welded steel wire
door in front. They're lightweight, portable and are easily taken apart for storage or travel. Some of them come in decorator colors! Most plastic crates meet federal regulations for airline travel. The quality of plastic crates varies between manufacturers and you'll need to get one sturdy enough to resist chewing.
Wire crates are very popular and depending on your dog's needs, may be a better purchase than plastic. You'll need to shop more carefully for a wire crate because quality and style vary greatly. Some of them are flimsy and not meant to be collapsed for storage. Others, advertised as "collapsible", do so only with great difficulty and don't fold down to a convenient size. Look for sturdy crates with heavy gauge wire that are easily folded down into a "suitcase-style" shape for transportation and storage. Although they aren't approved for airline use, I prefer wire crates for my heavy-coated Chows because they offer better ventilation.

How big should it be?

A crate need only be big enough for the dog to stand up, turn around and lie down comfortably. I like them to be just long enough for my dogs to stretch out on their sides to sleep. Growing puppies can be a problem when buying a crate. Not everyone can afford to buy a new one for each stage of growth but too large a crate can make a puppy harder to housebreak. Fortunately, dividers are available for some brands so you can shrink and expand the puppy's space as needed.

How much will it cost?

You can expect to pay between $50 - 125 for a quality crate for a medium to large dog. While it may sound like a lot, a good crate will outlive several dogs and quickly pays for itself in peace of mind and undamaged carpets, furniture and belongings.

How does a crate make housebreaking easier?

Along with their natural instinct to sleep in a den, puppies are born with the instinctive desire to keep their dens clean. Given the opportunity, most puppies will seek out an area to relieve themselves that's far away from where they eat, play and sleep. Using a crate
takes advantage of this natural tendency and helps the puppy to learn to control himself in between trips outside.
During the first few months, puppies require almost constant supervision, something that's hard to do with our busy lifestyles. Using a crate helps you to prevent accidents when you can't watch your puppy every single minute. Housebreaking is easier to accomplish when accidents are prevented in the first place, rather than correcting the puppy afterward. Using a crate, a place that the puppy is naturally reluctant to use as a bathroom, combined with a regular feeding and exercise schedule will make housebreaking go faster as well as saving your carpets and your sanity!

Have you heard of Keebler S'mores?

Hi….I wanted to make sure to tell you upfront that I have received no product or compensation to promote anything in this post. This post is about my life! If I use product names in this post it is because they are the products I used - no other reason.  Thanks for visiting.

I had a fantastic weekend. Isa, Davey, and I headed to our RV for our first camping weekend of 2014.  This year in Wisconsin it has been exceptionally cooler than normal - this weekend was no difference. With temps averaging around 58 degrees it was a perfect weekend to get the campsite ready for summer fun.
Amazing how many leaves can fall in the winter months - I raked and burned and raked and burned. I tried the yard blower but the leaves were just too wet - they needed to be raked. Spending my time between leaves and wood stacking it was a busy day on Saturday.
I had a truck load of firewood delivered. Yep...a truck load!  I must say it was quite a job for the three of us to stack all of the wood. I laughed and told the kids this is Nana's day at the gym. It took us a while but we got it! Nicely stacked not far from the fire ring.

While we were stacking I was burning leaves and making us a fire to make our dessert. When we were finished stacking the fire was just right for making our new dessert.
Oh My GOSH these are DELICIOUS! So easy to make and absolutely the tastiest S'more I have ever eaten.  All you need are marshmallows, Keebler Chocolate Striped cookies, and a campfire.  Toast your marshmallows and then place a toasted marshmallow in-between to Keebler Chocolate Striped cookies! DELICIOUS!

When the sun started to go down so did the temps.  After a long day of work and cool weather we were ready to call it a night. We headed into the RV for a hot shower and a little TV before hitting the sack. A perfect day!
