Barking Wednesday - Dogs Dry Nose Care

Thanks for joining me for my Barking Wednesday post.
Each week I post stuff about my favorite guy...Kingers and his friends.
All kinds of stuff....products - homemade treat recipes - info I have learned over the years, etc.  Info I think is helpful in making sure that every dog lives a fantastic life.

Does your dog have dry itchy skin?  Try this home remedy to help relieve your dog's dry nose. Kingers always has a dry nose.  The vet has stated that it is Kingers. Ever since he was a puppy his nose has been dry.

If your pup has a dry nose rest assure that it can be perfectly normal.  Hydration, sunburn, wind and body temperature can all affect the dryness of your dogs nose.
Kingers has always had a dry nose - which may be the result of his allergies.  They do believe that dogs with allergies tend to have dry noses.

One of the ways that I try to help to relieve the dryness is by washing Kingers nose with a gentle soap like Ivory. Once the nose is clean I apply a very light coat of Aquaphor. I apply a very light coat of Aquaphor to ensure that he does not lick it off his nose.
As you can see by his nose it is still dry.  I can not imagine how dry it would be if I did not add a moisturizer.

As always make sure to contact with your vet before doing any treatments on your dog.

Stuffed Cornish Hens

Shopping on Tuesday I picked up two Cornish Hens for Thursday's dinner. We love our hens stuffed with seasoned dressing.

Here goes...How I make one of our favorite meals.

Stuffed Cornish Hens

Dressing:
I make my own bread crumbs - easy to do and a great way to use old bread
Cut up bread - place on a cooking sheet - I use my Calphalon Pizza Pan (it is the best pizza pan we have ever owned)

Bake the bread cubes for 9 minutes at 425 degrees
DONE!

I then mix bread crumbs - chicken stock - mushrooms and spices.  I recommend you add the spices to your taste.  Here are the spices I use.  Spice to taste.  The Onion Crunch adds a sweet onion taste!

Cornish Hens:
Place the washed Cornish Hens in a baking dish. Stuff with dressing - top with butter and I sprinkled Italian Seasoning on ours.

Bake at 350 degrees for about 1 hour - then I cover with aluminum foil - I like Reynolds Non-Stick Wrap to ensure that the hens do not get too brown.  I check the hens about every 30 minutes - pasting using the juices from the hens.  I use a cooking thermometer to ensure that they are at least 165 degrees at the thickest part of the hen.  I cooked these hens for 1 hour & 45 minutes - they temped at 176 degrees.  DELICIOUS meal!!! I served with Chicken Gravy and Italian Green Beans!

Easy & Inexpensive Holiday Wreaths

I love to decorate for each holiday.  I always decorate the vine wreaths I have on my front and back door.   Each holiday I add a little holiday touch to them. I like using shiny items because the sun shines off of them and they show very pretty from the road.

About 15 years ago I made my own vine wreaths - very easy to make.  I redecorate them for all holidays.
You can often find used vine wreaths at rummage sales or thrift shops. If you want you can also purchase new from the store. Hobby Lobby, Michaels, JoAnns and even Walmart has vine wreaths.
I have a small wreath for the back door and a large wreath for the front. To make the wreath I need 1 roll of ribbon and a shiny designed rope.

For the back I used foiled rope with  shamrocks and for the front door Isa picked out green garland. Ribbon, rope and garland was purchased from the Dollar Store.

Wrap the rope around the front of the wreath. Do not go in and out and around. Stay on the front of the vine - using the vine to hold the rope in place.
Once the shiny rope is secure you can start making bows..Make numerous simple bows on top of each other. I like this type of bow for wreaths - makes them look full and unique.
Backdoor Wreath
Front Door Wreath
This was the front door Valentine's Wreath

Simple holiday wreaths. I save my ropes and ribbon from year to year. This year while shopping at the Dollar store Isa found the garland and new green ribbon that she wanted to use.  The foil shamrocks are from last year.
Shamrock Wreaths for 2014 cost $3.00 for two wreaths - 2 rolls of Green Ribbon and I roll of Green Garland  (Green shamrock foil rope was from last year's wreath) purchased from the Dollar Store.

While shopping at the Dollar Store yesterday I picked up some shiny Easter items...check back on the March 19th ~ I will be making and posting pics of my Easter Wreaths.

Who are YOU?

This past week I read a blog post written by Danielle Leigh on her blog

She asked the following questions.  I was so intrigued at the emotions these questions arouse in me that I wanted to share with everyone her post and my answers.
These few simple questions - made me really think about ME ~ count my blessing and realize that I do have dreams and I am still reaching for them. I live by the the idea that I can not spend one day without a dream. Everyone must have dreams!

What’s the one thing I've always wanted to do?
I have always wanted to just travel across the USA. Not travel on expressways - but travel small town USA.  Take a whole year to reach from the East Coast to the West Coast. Zig zagging my way through every one of the lower 48 states. When I finish my year jump on a plane and land in Alaska to explore for a month. Then hop on a plane for my trip to Hawaii for a month then home.

If I could spend today doing whatever I desire, if I had no obligations today, what would I do?
Fly somewhere for lunch and then come back home!  I think that would be a blast!

Where do I really want to live?  What city and what type of residence?
I would really like to live in the French Quarters of New Orleans in a remodeled townhouse in the middle of all the action. One of the homes with the huge doors at the street making it look like a boarded up area. But when you open the doors you find a fantastic patio area with a totally remodeled home. Plus,I want a outside 2nd or 3rd floor balcony so I can watch all that is happening in the French Quarters from my balcony. I for sure want to take my children and grandchildren with me to New Orleans and of course hubby and Kingers!

Where would I like to visit?
If I could take one trip and only one trip for the rest of my life .... I would like to travel to Yellowstone to Glacier National Park to Oregon coast to the Redwoods of California then head down to San Francisco. In a RV with my hubby, grandchildren and Kingers.

What do I talk about doing but never do it?
I am always talking about renting a RV and traveling the USA!

What are the reasons I don't go after my dreams?
I do try to go after my traveling dreams but there is only so much money for traveling. If I ever win the lottery I will be a full time traveler. Each year I go somewhere fun to visit. I have been to 47 of the 50 states - Oregon - California and Hawaii are still on my Bucket List. Also, my hubby likes to travel but not like me. So I have started traveling with my children and grandchildren - which they have time limits due to their responsibilities.

What are the things in my life that I would like to get rid of?
Let me see
  • I for sure want to get rid of having to weed-whack the whole yard. My plan this year is to re-design the landscaping to remove all weed-whacking.
  • Walls that need painting - I plan to start painting the minute I can open windows and not stop until every room is painted

Which people in my life inspire me and why?
My children & my grandchildren inspire me to explore and stay young.  I love spending time with them - exploring life with them. We have a blast together.

If I were to make one radical change in my life right now to make life better, what would it be?
Sell our home and start over in a condo or apartment with no maintenance.  We currently have over a acre of land on a lake. We have lived in our home for 36 years- great memories but lots of work. Since our home was built in 1946 - we are always doing some type of repairs.  Selling and moving on I think would be the best for us...but it is so hard to let go.

How do I feel when I put all my effort into accomplishing one of my goals?
Driven is the word that comes to my mind. When the goal is accomplished I feel Joy and Pride.

How do I feel whenever I achieve a life goal?
Fantastic but also anxious to start the next project. I am  the type that is thinking about what is next  before I finish the task I am working on. What should I do next?  Drives some of my family nuts.

What’s missing from my life?
Gosh this is a hard one for me.  I live life each day - changing to meet my present needs.  I guess the most important thing I am missing is my love ones that have passed. I miss my Grandfather and Grandmother - My Dad. These were very important people in my life.
Plus, I wish I lived near my Mom and brother.  When I was 18 my parents moved about 400 miles away for a promotion. I stayed behind. Living apart from my family has alway been so difficult for me.  Raising children and jobs always keep us from moving near them.  I wish we had taken the plunge 40 years ago and moved. Now I would never leave my children and grandchildren - they are my life.

Who are your biggest supporters?
My family - hubby - children - grandchildren - brother and Mom. When I retired and started my glass business they were all totally supportive! I can think of so many times when others thought I was nuts - my family told me to go for it! They have always been there for me.

Who gets in the way of me achieving my goals?
Me ... I am my worst enemy - I know that and I try not to be - but sometimes I slip!

What would your answers to these questions be?  Give it a try - think about each question and see if you find yourself in your answers!

Barking Wednesday ~ How to trim your dogs nails.

This week I wanted to talk about clipping your dog's nails.  Many of my friends hate to clip their pets nails. It is not hard and with the help of this very good video it will make the job much easier.

Kingers hates his nails clipped. When he sees me getting the clippers he is out of here.  I think it is the fact that he really does not like his paws touched. Oh well...he knows when the clippers come out. He gets to sit on the floor with me and we clip away. But he also knows that there will be treats with this ordeal. Check out other great Barking Wednesday post. Click on the Barking Wednesday link on the right sidebar of this blog.

I posted videos!

I made some videos!  They are not the best in the world but I did take the video plunge! On Saturday the kids and I went to Jump America.  A fantastic trampoline park in Gurnee, IL.
Pics were so hard to take because the kids were always moving - so I decided to try taking videos.

When I was writing my review I thought what the heck I will post my videos.  I downloaded them to my You Too Account  and then shared them on my post!

Head over to my other blog DeDa Studios to check out our fun evening and watch my videos!  I have lots to learn about talking good video pics - but I am super proud of myself for at least getting the three videos on my post!

Truth Be Told Adam Becomes Audrey by Alexandra Bogdanovic Giveaway ends 3/20

Truth Be Told: Adam Becomes AudreyMeeting the man of your dreams, falling in love and getting married. It sounds like every woman’s dream. But what if you suddenly found out that your husband self-identified as and wanted to become a woman? That’s exactly what happened to Connecticut-based reporter Alexandra Bogdanovic.

As the daughter of music and television icons, Sonny and Cher, Chastity Bono grew up in the public eye. So it was shocking to people everywhere when she became Chaz. Her decision to “become” a man made headlines around the world, but Bono is not alone. Transgender men and women frequently appear on television talk shows and reality programs to share their stories. In doing so, they inevitably get the attention they seek; although it may not always be the kind of attention they want.

While many come forth in an effort to promote tolerance, acceptance and understanding in mainstream society, their decision to live as – or in some cases have surgery to become – the opposite gender often sparks curiosity and visceral reactions born from ignorance.

Truth Be Told: Adam Becomes Audrey, a new book from author Alexandra Bogdanovic, tells the other side of the story. Part tragedy, part comedy, part love story, the book tells the story of the author’s real life experience of meeting a man, falling in love, getting married and finding out her husband wanted to become a woman. This book is the story of what happened after she learned the truth.
