Barking Wednesday ~ Great Lakes Pet Expo

What a fun day! Saturday we spent the day at the Great Lakes Pet Expo

Dawn, Caleb, Isa, Davey and myself headed to the expo - arriving at 10 am. The expo is a one day show January 31st from 10 am - 5 pm.

My goal was to learn some interesting dog info and pick up Diesel some new stuff!  I definitely wanted to find a engraved collar for him.

First I want to share a little info about the Great Lakes Pet Expo.
The Great Lakes Pet Expo is the Largest Non-Profit Pet Expo In Wisconsin.

What makes the Great Lakes Pet Expo is so different than other Pet Expo's. The Great Lakes Pet Expo is manged by a non-profit organization. The Alliance of Wisconsin Animal Rehoming Efforts, a non-profit consortium of rescues and shelters working together to save lives of animals. All of the proceeds from this event are given back to the animals of Wisconsin by way of the non profit organizations (rescues and humane societies) who care for them. The money is raised through ticket sales and all dollars raised stay in Wisconsin.  By attending it is a great way to give back to the animals in need in Wisconsin.

What a fun event! I spoke to vets, dog trainers, dog food companies, dog toy makers, collar makers, Police Canine, US Military Canine, and so much more.  There were Rescue Groups from all over Wisconsin. Rescue groups by dog breeds, cats, small animals, and even reptiles.

I signed Diesel up for a new Dog Subscription box the Reggie Box

When Diesel's box arrives I will definitely be writing a review. I had never heard of this company. After a chat with them I learned they are about one year old - based in Naperville, IL (A suburb of Chicago)  All of their products used for their boxes are USA made and all natural.

At the dog product company booth - PetrageUS Designs...I bought Diesel two new jackets one next winter and the other a waterproof jacket perfect for chilly Spring and Fall days. Amazing low price of $10 each. I checked on line and they are current styles. I paid less than half price for the coats.

Rescue centers had spinning wheel - for $1.00 you spun the wheel for a prize. All items had been donated to the Rescue Center. For Diesel we got kennel blanket - collars - balls - bandanna - leash - harness - treats. Amazing amount of items!

Local vet's were discussing important topics - with coupons for free 1st visits. Dog trainers from the area also offering great deals on training. I plan on receiving info from a few - I am looking for a good Puppy Class for Diesel.

Quality Natural Dog Food Companies were represented. All giving away samples of their products. The samples will be perfect for me to give Diesel some variety and find out which natural food works best for him.

I bought Diesel his name tag - a shinny silver bone with his name, phone number and city.
One of the Rescue centers was making tags - all proceeds from the tags went to caring for the dogs.  Looks really cute on his $1.00 skull collar I bought from the Spaniel Rescue.

The fact that everything I purchased in someway helps shelters - made my entire shopping experience a little sweeter.

The Expo is once a year - if you live in Wisconsin - are a pet owner - make sure to sign up for their Newsletter for the Great Lakes Pet Expo - sign up is in the lower left hand corner of their website page.
They also have a Facebook page Great Lakes Pet Expo
You might have a Pet Expo in your area - if so it is a fun way to spend the day.
Here are a few pics from the day - not many pics - I was too busy checking everything out.
I am very glad we arrived before the doors were open....I highly recommend that. But like every great Expo it  was crowded and busy!
Here is the latest pic of Diesel 4.5 weeks old
He is the one eating! Out of the four he has the most color.

  3. We missed the pet expo this year but I haven't decided if that's a good thing or not. (we watched our daughter compete at a cheer competition across the hall) I've been toying with getting a yorkie puppy because they are supposed to be hypoallergenic and great for people with allergies. **sigh** maybe next year!
