Flight 93 Memorial

This past July I had the privilege of visiting the
Flight 93 Memorial.
Like so many others I remember where I was when I first heard that the twin towers had been hit by an airplane. I was on Green Bay Road making a left had turn onto Bain's Road heading to work. I was listening to the radio and having a hard time believing what I was hearing. Once inside work, I immediately turned on the TV and sure enough...I could not believe what I was watching ........

The day America changed

Flight 93 Memorial is located outside of Stoystown, PA. East of Pittsburgh in a farming community. The memorial park was dedicated on September 10th, 2011.

When you enter the park the road is winding and the countryside is beautiful. Once we were parked and started walking to the wall...there was a peacefulness that is so hard to explain.

As we walked there was a deer eating grass not disturbed by the many visitors present.
Everyone was quiet and calm - even my 6 year old grandson felt the peacefulness.

FLIGHT 93
  • 40  ordinary people that bought a plane ticket to somewhere
  • 40 people that did not sign up to be heroes
  • They did not declare their heroism
  • The wore no uniforms
  • Had no guns.
  • They  had the belief that they could MAKE A DIFFERENCE
  • They took the plane back from the terrorist and they saved American lives by  preventing the plane from reaching our capital WASHINGTON DC.
  • American Heroes that gave it all to save others.
Since my visit to Flight 93 I often wonder would I have the courage it took to do what they did? I hope I would of.

On September 10th, 2015 the new Flight 93 Learning Center located at the crash site will have it's grand opening. A center dedicated to the 911 Attacks.

# Camping ~ Camper Lawn Chair Rack

What do you do with your lawn chairs when you have a Truck Camper?
You install a chair holder rack on your outside ladder.

Check out our new lawn chair holder we installed on our camper ladder.

We have two camping chairs. They are very comfortable but they take up a lot of room.
We wanted a way to save some space and keep our chairs secure.
One of the key things about camping in a truck camper is finding ways to save space.

While checking out Amazon I found a Stromberg Carlson Ladder Chair Rack.
The rack was not hard to install ....considering we installed it on one of the hottest days of the summer.
Now our camping chairs are secure and we have saved some much needed space for our trip to Yellowstone.

#Barking Wednesday ~ Treating Pet Dander

This Barking Wednesday I want to discuss Pet Dander. Diesel had a serious dander problem.   I found a really effective way to treat Diesel's dander issue.

I started giving Diesel a bath once a week using Restore natural  dog shampoo enriched with honey. Restore is sold on Amazon - click HERE to learn about Restore.

As a final rinse  ~ I make a rinse solution of one gallon of water to one cup of Lime Juice.
The Restore soap was very easy to use. I rubbed the bar on Diesel's back and them used my mitt. It was very impressive how much the soap absorbed into his hair.

Diesel's vet informed me that there are a few reasons that might be the cause of Diesel's dander. The reasons are lack of grooming, bad diet, and insufficient exercise. Diesel eats a very good diet and is bathed monthly. I have started giving him a bath weekly with the Restore shampoo and the Lime rinse. I have also increased his daily exercise.

It is amazing how the dander has been reduced.

Click Wondercide Natural Products for a $10 off coupon on your first order!

If your dog has a dander issue - give the Restore shampoo & Lime Juice rinse a try. That along with increased daily exercise has definitely helped reduce Diesel's dander issue.

Happy National Dog Day !!!!

Every wonder what the inside of a truck camper looks like?

We recently purchased a Truck Camper for our Dually Pick Up Truck. We wanted a camper that fit on the back of the truck because it makes traveling and camping very easy. We purchased the Palomino Backback Model HS-8801.

When we started camping in our camper - I was amazed at how many people thought that the truck campers had very little room and that they were not equipped with all the amenities as larger campers.

I agree the truck campers are compact and I would recommend that the maximum number of people for a truck camper is two. Which is perfect for my hubby and I.

Here is the floor plan for our camper. We have stove, oven, microwave, toilet, shower,
flat screen TV with cable and satellite connectors, stereo inside and out, good size closet space and storage, queen size bed, good size compact fridge, AC, heat, a outside shower for use to clean items and great for cleaning off the dog, power awning over the door, and a power awning along the entire side of the camper.
Our camper is also equipped with power lifters that will automatically lift the camper off of our truck. Everything that is movable is powered.
Here is a pic of the inside of our camper. As you can see - plenty of room for two.
We enjoy the outside and spend the majority of our time outside while camping. We had a back door awning and also a side awning added to our camper. We love to sit and watch nature and people.  Here is a pic of our camper during our last camping  trip. The awning makes a nice area to sit under and relax.   We also added a chair rack to our ladder and a hitch cargo carrier to our truck hitch. They rack and cargo carrier give us room to travel with our chairs, generator, and tote for grill and other items.

We have owned a Forest River Camper for over 14 years  - we have never had any trouble with it. So when it came time to purchase a truck camper - we knew the brand we wanted. Palomino RV is a subsidiary of Forest River. A company you can trust for quality products.

We purchased our camper from Kramer's Kampers in Zion, Il.  Zion is north of Chicago along Lake Michigan. Everyone at Kramer's Kampers is friendly and very helpful...I highly recommend them as the place to purchase a camper if you live in SE Wisconsin or NE Illinois.

Twenty days till we head to Yellowstone for two weeks!  Make sure to stop back to read about our trip.

Were you surprised at the amenities a truck camper has to offer?

#Barking Wednesday ~ Camping with a Dog

I use Diesels crate as a storage area for his dog food, food bowls, lead and ground lead, bones, toys, and treats. First thing when we arrive at our campsite I take the crate out - empty it and insert the ground lead into the ground. I then attach Diesel to the lead - now I am free to get the campsite ready while Diesel is secure and safe.

List of dog items to take on your next camping trip

  1. Food and water bowls - I found a really neat collapsible set on Amazon ~ Dexas Collapsible
  2. Food
  3. Treats
  4. Toys
  5. Lead - 16' and 8'
  6. Lead Ground Holder
  7. Leash
  8. Collar/Harness
  9. Extra water dish for vehicle - I use a Dukes Travel Bowl
  10. Crate
  11. Blanket for crate
  12. Dog Shampoo
  13. Dogs medical records & microchip info
  14. Vet phone number
  15. All of your dogs medications
  16. Anxiety medications if needed
  17. Muzzle
  18. Sporn No-Pull Halter
  19. Plastic bags for waste
  20. Install a America Red Cross Pet First Aid App on your phone
  21. Purchase a Pet First Aid Kit for your Camper or make your own - we added pet friendly items to our People First Aid Kit
When camping with your pet make sure the campground you are planning on staying at is Pet Friendly.  KOA campsites are pet friendly and many have a enclosed pet park that allows your pet to run free and play. To us having a area for Diesel to run is very important to us. We are planning on staying at KOA Campgrounds for our Yellowstone trip.
This is a pic of the dog area at the KOA campground in Cody, WY.
Perfect area for Diesel to play and run free while enjoying himself camping.

#HappyHealthyOdorFree ~ Introducing Fresh Wave

I am super excited to introduce a new product that is a natural way to make your life smell nicer.
Fresh Wave is a Happy Healthier way to make your life smell fresh and clean.

Fresh Wave comes in three different means of making the air smell clean.

They have a Odor Removing Spray which works great for a fast way to clean the air. I keep our bottle of Fresh Wave under the sink in our main bathroom. It is perfect for removing stinky odors FAST!

Fresh Wave has a Odor Removing Gel which is perfect for a room or for a closed in area. I use my fresh wave in my large hall closet. It is a large closet that gets backed full of items. The Fresh Wave keeps the closet smelling fresh and clean. All I needed to do was add the Fresh Wave container - no spraying or adding ingredients that can spill and make a mess.

The third way that they package
Fresh Wave is in Odor Removing Packets. These packets are perfect for my car and our camper. I love the fresh smell with the ease of a packet. No mess or fuss....just place the packet in your car and you have a fresh smelling car. I especially like the packets for our camper bathroom. They work fantastic and I do not have to worry about spilling. I also plan to send a packet to school with Isa to keep her locker smelling fresh and clean.

derma e New Purifying Products

I was given the opportunity to review two natural derma e purifying products.  I found both products to be very nice. I loved the way the Youth Serum made my skin feel. Very soft and smooth. I applied the Youth Serum after I used the Purifying 2 in 1 Charcoal Mask.  My favorite is the Purifying 2 in 1 Charcoal Mask. I love mask and this is probably the BEST mask I have ever used. My face felt clean, refreshed, and younger after the mask. I use the mask about two times a week. I apply the mask - let it dry then shower. Very very relaxing for my face. I had no irritation from either product.

I highly recommend both products. I liked the products so much that I just placed an order for their Scalp Relief Shampoo and Conditioner. I have very dry scalp and I am hoping that the Scalp Relief products work as great as the Purifying products I reviewed.  Make sure to check back to find out if the Scalp Relief products are also amazing!

Getting Ready for Yellowstone

As many of you know we recently purchased a truck camper for our dually pick up truck. We wanted a camper that was easy to take with us no matter where we went. The truck camper was perfect for the two of us. This past weekend we took out third camping adventure in our new camper.  We have been taking trips to get ready for a big trip in September - we are heading to Yellowstone for two weeks.
The 1st of July we went to Pennsylvania  - middle of July to northern Wisconsin and our last trip was to the Upper Peninsula of Michigan.
We spend 4 days and 3 nights at a really nice resort  - Log Cabin Resort and Campground located about 2 miles west of Curtis Michigan. It is the oldest campground resort in the state of Michigan.  We had a fantastic time....very relaxing. The Log Cabin Resort & Campground has numerous cabins - on the shore of Big Lake Manistique. Their camp
sites are a good size - we did not feel like our neighbors were too close. We had plenty of room for our camping activities.  Bath house was very clean and the resort was well kept. I highly recommend the Log Cabin Resort and Campground for anyone that would like a perfect getaway from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Michigan's UP is beautiful country!

The reason we have been taking numerous camping trips is to make sure we have everything we need for our two week adventure to Yellowstone. After each trip we have a list of items we need. I think one of the hardest things about purchasing a new camper is the learning curve on what is needed and how to store items in the new camper. Since the Truck Camper is compact - we need to pack wisely making sure we have what we need utilizing every inch of storage space.

Our goal for the next couple weeks is to get our camper ready to roll for our two week adventure. I will be posting pics and sharing helpful camping info prior to our trip. I will be sharing our Yellowstone adventure trip once we return.

If you are a camper or thinking about camping make sure to stop back for some insight on camping Do's and Don'ts. I definitely have a few tips on what not to do!

Get #InspiredByCrafted ~The Best For Your Pet

This post is sponsored by Hill’s. I am being compensated for helping spread the word about Hill’s® Ideal Balance™ Crafted™, but Green and Glassie only shares information we feel is relevant to our readers. Hill’s Pet Nutrition, Inc. is not responsible for the content of this article.

For the past few months I have been telling the story of Hill's Crafted dog food. Hill's Crafted is made in small batches with all natural ingredients ~ the way I make food for my family.

When I started to write this post I thought about the changes that my life has taken. I have become very green - using no chemicals - eating locally grown produce, organic products, and buying my meat from local farmers.  I even started this blog Green and Glassie to share ways to be natural & green and share my story of making recycled glass art.

I have been asked "Why be green"? "What is the big deal about not using chemicals and what is going back to nature?"

I tell everyone that being GREEN is a lifestyle that leaves a small footprint on our planet. I recycle instead of throwing things away. I give things new life. I reuse what I can and try to find creative ways to make new things out of the old.  I use no chemicals in my home and eat locally grown food with little to no chemicals or organic food that has natural nutrients

So often this question comes up "What is natural food?" I tell everyone natural food to me is food that is grown with little to no chemicals - that is grown locally or labeled organic. Food that comes from soil that has not been sprayed with multiple chemicals to make the biggest fruit or vegetables.
My favorite experiment for people to learn about natural is:
1. Go to the local grocery store and buy a tomato that has been shipped from another state or country.
2. Stop by your local Farmers Market and buy a tomato grown in your community
3. Place both tomatoes on your kitchen counter.
4. In 7 days which tomato can you still eat?  (if you wanted to?)
THE GROCERY STORE TOMATO WINS EVERY TIME??
The Grocery Store Tomato always wins....because that tomato has been sprayed with chemicals to prevent it from going bad - chemicals to keep it red and hard...ready to eat.
That is why I eat and serve my family natural food.  I can not begin to know how many chemicals it takes to prevent food from spoiling? Serious stuff - if fruit and veggies will not spoil - what are those chemicals doing to our bodies?

Since I feel so strong about what we eat making sure it is healthy ~ It makes total sense that I do the same for Diesel. I do not want Diesel to eat chemicals.  Read the ingredients on dog food bags....you will be SHOCKED as to what is in many of the non-natural dog foods.

Hill’s® Ideal Balance™ Crafted™ is made with natural ingredients. Food that I serve my family. I have tried many brands of healthy natural dog food for Diesel. I must say that Hill's Crafted is my favorite and his too! I approve of the ingredients and I respect the Hill's brand and I trust them to provide the highest quality products.

Thank you Hill's for INSPIRING me to continue my mission of spreading the importance of being GREEN!

The Alphabet of Bugs by Valerie Gates

Do you know what a Chrysina resplendens or a Papilionidae butterfly looks like? Valerie Gates’s charming alliterative style paired with Ann Cutting’s stunning photographs of all types of bugs is sure to delight curious children and adults alike.
