Nordic Trail ~ Kettle Moraine Wisconsin State Park

Yesterday we found a great trail to hike ~ Nordic Trail. The Nordic Trail is part of the SE Kettle Moraine Wisconsin State Park.  The trail has numerous routes depending on how many miles you are wishing to hike. It is also a snow shoe shoeing, cross country ski, and jogging trail.

The trail is very nice - wide and the views are spectacular. Yesterday it was 19 degrees windy overcast with light snow.

The fresh snow made the hike interesting. Identifying tracks has turned into a hobby for me. I seen deer, rabbit, and I am pretty sure raccoon.

Here are a few pics from the day!  The pics show how black and white Wisconsin woods are in the winter.  The last pic you can see a few leaves on a tree - other than that the scenery is basically black and white.

If we would of gotten more than a dusting of snow - we would not have been able to hike. But with only about 1 inch of snow - that is not enough for cross country skiing - so hiking was a go!

The entrance of the trail has restrooms, warming shelter, picnic tables, and a nice area for gathering. Making this trail a great place for us to schedule a hike with friends and grandchildren for next Saturday.

Hiking Cross-Country Skiing Nordic trail system

This trail, on County Highway H south of the Village of Palmyra, provides hiking and skiing for skate and classical stride cross-country skiers through a variety of vegetation, hardwoods, pine plantations, open meadows and kettle moraine terrain. There are six different trails of varying lengths and degrees of difficulty, providing great hiking or skiing for all levels of ability. A warming shelter is open every day and convenient parking, vault toilets and a sledding hill are also available at the trailhead. Hiking is not allowed when the trails are snow covered. Bikes are not allowed on this trail system.
